Diving Sipadan & Si Amil Islands, Sabah

11/7/2014

A week diving in paradise. Sipadan is known to have one of the best coral reefs in the world, and it does. It's truly beautiful and the marine life you get there changes daily. Schools of reef sharks, Leopard sharks, Whale sharks as well as Hammerhead sharks have been seen here. Some even seen whales pass by. Sipadan is great for large marine life and you will definitely come across large schools of fish! Siamil is another island not far from Mabul that is known for Eagle rays. Macro life here is equally as good and Frog fish counting is a sport.

Hi Josef,

Hi there. Well actually Sipadan is not too expensive to dive. I loved with Scuba Junkie and I think there are very reasonable as diving Tenggol is also similar in price. On Tenggol, the dive is nice but its nothing like the islands in Sabah.

Tenggol: The island is small and consist of 3 resorts. Its very isolated with brilliant dive sites for west Malaysia. The resorts are all full-board service - Tenggol Island Beach Resort is nice and the dive master here is very experienced. He's been taking people on dives and managing the place for more than 10 years.

I would recommend you do Sipadan. You can't live on the island itself hence you'd be staying on Mabul island (look up Scuba Junkie). And diving around Mabul, Kapalai and Si Amil is amazing for macro diving, rays, turtles and other amazing marine life.

Look up here for more info on the places http://www.wanderosh.com/malaysia.html

And there are further articles and information I've written on the link below http://www.wanderosh.com/the-journey/category/malaysia

Hope it helps you decide where to go. But on average, both diving Sipadan or Tenggol equals to be the same in price, if you're renting gear. Hope the information helps - let me know if you need more specific information.

Dive safe.
