A city that sparks a love affair with its history, serenades you with its accordion, intoxicates you with its wine and arouses your inner sense to appreciate beauty - that is Paris. Like any other cosmopolitan city in the world, it is busy, fast moving and a melting pot of cultures. But through all that fast-paced-movement this fashion capital is still true to its roots with the love of art, apéritif and cheese. Hidden bars to old churches, this city is nothing short of a surprise if you know where to look.
The Île de la Cité is one of two natural islands located in the Seine River in Paris. It is in the centre of Paris and is home to the famous Notre Dame cathedral (built from 1163), Louis IX’s Sainte-Chapelle (built between 1242 - 1248), Palais de Justice as well as the Conciergerie prison where Marie Antoinette awaited her execution. Montmartre is the second highest point in Paris after the Eiffel Tower. From the top here, one can view the entire skyline of Paris and a perfect location to watch the light display of the Eiffel Tower at night. It is home to the famous white-domed church, Basilica of the Sacré Cœur as well as the old church of Saint Pierre de Montmartre. It is said that many artist such as Claude Monet, Piet Mondrian, Pablo Picasso, Vincent van Gogh and even Salvador Dali had studios and worked in and around Montmartre. |
